Winter Foliage Arrangements: Long-Lasting Beauty for Christchurch Homes

During the winter months, I love bringing the rich textures and seasonal colours of foliage indoors. This week on our Instagram reel, I shared how to arrange some of our gorgeous locally grown Christchurch foliage alongside vibrant Ilex berries.
Our stunning Ilex berries are grown in the beautiful Horotane Valley, just a short distance from our seaside store. Supporting local growers allows us to showcase the very best seasonal flowers and foliage that Canterbury has to offer.
The striking red berries paired with fresh winter foliage create a beautiful arrangement that celebrates the colours of the season. Better still, foliage arrangements are incredibly long-lasting and can bring interest, texture, and colour to your home for weeks.
Winter in Ōtautahi Christchurch often brings crisp mornings, sunny days, and chilly evenings. With heat pumps and fireplaces running regularly, it can sometimes be difficult to keep fresh flowers looking their best. That's why winter foliage arrangements are such a wonderful option. Many varieties of locally grown foliage are naturally hardy and cope well with indoor heating, making them ideal for Christchurch homes during the colder months.
Whether you're looking to brighten your living room, add seasonal styling to your dining table, or send a thoughtful gift, winter foliage arrangements offer a beautiful and sustainable choice. The combination of locally grown Canterbury foliage and vibrant Ilex berries creates a timeless arrangement that captures the beauty of a Christchurch winter.
At Harakeke Florist, we're passionate about using seasonal, locally sourced flowers and foliage whenever possible. Visit our Christchurch florist store or browse our collection online to discover beautiful winter flowers and foliage arrangements inspired by the season.
Frequently Asked Questions:

How long do Ilex berries last in an arrangement?
When cared for properly, Ilex berries can remain attractive for several weeks, making them perfect for winter arrangements.

Why do you remove the bottom of the foliage stems?

We do this to ensure that the water stays as clean as possible.  Having leaves in the water can make the bacteria in the water grow faster as the leaves break down.

Do you have Ilex berries available to purchase?

Yes, our Christchurch store is located at 17 Marriner Street, Sumner Christchurch.  Please call the store 03 3669545 to check that we have your desired quantities.
