A Little Bloom of Spring Joy

There is something about flowers that makes us stop.

Even if it is only for a moment.

We notice the colour of a petal, the scent of a bloom, the way a stem bends towards the light. Flowers have a beautiful way of bringing us back to where we are — reminding us to look around, to notice the season changing and to enjoy something simply because it is beautiful.

That is really what inspired our spring window at Harakeke.

As a child, I was always outside in the garden picking flowers. I would gather whatever I could find, make little posies and bring them inside. My mum always had flowers in our home too, and I think that simple appreciation for having something growing and beautiful around us has stayed with me throughout my life.

Flowers don't have to be grand to mean something.

Sometimes one little bloom is enough.

It can remind someone that they are loved. It can make a kitchen table feel special. It can be passed on to a friend who needs cheering up, tucked into a little vase beside the bed, or simply held and enjoyed on the walk home.

And sometimes it is just a beautiful flower — and that is enough too.

Why We Filled Our Window With Flowers

We genuinely adore our customers and the community around us here in Sumner.

We wanted to create something this spring that might lift people's spirits, even just a little.

So we filled our window with blooms for you to enjoy — and some for you to take.

You don't need to buy anything. You don't need to tag us on Instagram. You don't need to do anything in return.

If a flower catches your eye, please take one.

Keep it for yourself or pass it on to someone else.

Sit down for a moment. Take a photo. Notice the flowers. Enjoy the colour.

Just be there.

Holding Onto the Small, Wonderful Things

We live in an incredible time. Technology and AI are changing the way we work, communicate and experience the world at an extraordinary pace.

But perhaps that makes it even more important to hold onto the wonderfully ordinary things that make us human.

Growing something.

Picking something from the garden.

Giving somebody a flower.

Watching the seasons change.

Feeling the spring sun on your face.

Putting a bloom in a tiny vase on the kitchen windowsill simply because it makes you happy.

There is still so much wonder in the physical world around us, and flowers have always been one of my favourite reminders of that.

They are fleeting. They make us notice them while they are here.

Perhaps that is part of their magic.

So if you're walking past Harakeke this spring, come and enjoy our window.

And if you see a little bloom you love, take it with you.

We put them there for you.

With love,

Laura & the Harakeke team x
